Catching Up With Deko-ze
We catch up with Deko-ze ahead of his Saturday night homecoming set.
Sep 09 2021
First of all, how are you and how has your 2021 been going so far?
Hmmm...well, the last 16 months have been terrible. COVID is an asshole. Full stop. I am, however, grateful for smart scientists, Netflix, YouTube and ummmm...an adult porn site (or two), the nice nurse that gave me my vaccine shots and my mom for not getting mad when I'd have the last cookie.
After a long 16 months, the city is finally open again. What have you missed most about DJing?
The crowds and playing a brand new song I was excited to play and thinking "damn, this sounds good!"
How would you describe your sound?
1. Pumpin' house, chuggin' tech-house, fist clenchin' techno, uplifting progressive, sprinkles of catchy vocals and adjectives that end with n apostrophe (n').
2. "Galloping" like an amused horse.
3. "Something Deko-ze would bob his head to."
When and how did you first get involved with The Comfort Zone?
Over 20 years ago, Amanda Young booked me to play one of the Devine Sundays...at 4:30PM. I thought "who the f#$% is gonna be dancing at 4:30 in the afternoon!?!" I walked in and the place was packed.
In your opinion, what is it that makes The Comfort Zone so special?
The people who come and fully release.
What's something no one knows about you?
I love The Legends Panel (Prince sees it and Whitney says "Yessssss, praise God!").
What will you do after answering these questions?
Running to the dinner table cuz mom has already called me twice. If she has to call me for a 3rd time, I'm getting my ass kicked!
