Catching Up With Mark Oliver
We catch up with Mark Oliver ahead of his Saturday night headlining set.
Aug 27 2021
First of all, how are you and how has your 2021 been going so far?
No complaints (all things considered). Been a treat having some time off to spend with family and catch up with some dear friends. Played a couple of great festivals the past two weekends (“Together Again” and “Promise Elsewhere”) and am still buzzing from them.
After a long 16 months, the city is finally open again. What have you missed most about DJing?
Seeing people come together to dance and celebrate in a live setting.
How would you describe your sound?
Depending on the venue and crowd, my sound varies. I’m always looking for new sounds to play, while still appreciating the classics as well.
When and how did you first get involved with The Comfort Zone?
I played at the old venue back when it was “BUZZ” in ‘95 and then, when it became Comfort Zone, continued to play until the final night at the original venue. I remember when it only opened at 10AM on a Sunday and closed around 4PM. Oh my, how times have changed. Was booked to play at the new location right at the beginning of lockdown in 2020, so really looking forward to finally touching down this weekend. It’s been a long time coming.
In your opinion, what is it that makes The Comfort Zone so special?
It’s always the crowd that makes it special for me. It’s probably the most diverse (and colourful) crowd in the city. Everyone comes mainly for the music and to spank the plank.
What's something no one knows about you?
Buy my book.
What will you do after answering these questions?
Kick myself for not coming up with witty answers. Running on little sleep, so must catch some 💤 before prepping some music tailor-made for CZ on Sunday morn. May commit some sins in order to confess at Morning Mass 😉
